Gang Reduction Youth Development

Gang Reduction Youth Development (GRYD) Program

Alma Family Services is the lead agency for a collaborative Gang Reduction Youth Development Program (GRYD) serving youth and families who reside in the Boyle Heights/Hollenbeck area of the City of Los Angeles. GRYD programs represent a historic effort on the part of the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office to reduce crime rates and gang membership in specific communities with a high degree of gang activity and violence. All services provided by Alma Family Services program address factors that are known to increase a youth’s risk of gang involvement.

The GRYD program includes an array of services such as a comprehensive case management, parenting classes, cognitive-behavioral therapy, family therapy, leadership development, youth mentoring, violence prevention training, substance use/abuse awareness and gang-prevention training. The youth are also provided with and linked to positive recreation and academic enrichment activities and programs that provide opportunities for youth to identify and share positive community stories.

Alma Family Services has engaged with schools, faith-based organizations and other local service providers in order to facilitate community-wide primary high quality prevention efforts.
